Dear Friend,<\/p>\n

Today is Thomas Edison’s 164th birthday.<\/p>\n

It has been said Edison made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb. When a reporter asked, “How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?”<\/em> Edison allegedly replied…<\/p>\n

“I didn\u2019t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Or something like that.<\/p>\n

I sure HOPE that’s true because it’s a great story showing the power of having a positive mindset and never giving up.<\/p>\n

But it doesn’t reveal one of the most important secrets to Edison’s success… and it’s something ALL of us can easily do.<\/p>\n

I’ve shared a few of my morning habits here on the blog before.<\/p>\n

They not only keep me happy and more sane than I’d normally be… they’re also the biggest secrets to my productivity and success.<\/p>\n

Here’s a couple of my most important morning habits:<\/p>\n

1. 33 minutes and 33 seconds writing… and after a 5 minute break…<\/p>\n

2. 33 minutes and 33 seconds practicing the guitar.<\/p>\n

It’s amazing how every single day, a plethora of various problems, situations and people seem to conspire against me to keep me from doing those morning habits.<\/p>\n

I simply put the blinders on and do them anyway.<\/p>\n

Today, for example, after my 33 minute and 33 second writing session, there was an allegedly urgent “fire” that only I could put out. I considered dealing with it and putting my guitar practice off until later.<\/p>\n

Problem is, when you do that, “later” never comes… and it never gets done.<\/p>\n

So I ignored the “fire”, picked up my guitar and got in my 33 minutes and 33 seconds of practice.<\/p>\n

Amazingly, I made a BIG breakthrough… and smashed through a rut that’s been keeping me from progressing for several months now.<\/p>\n

It was almost as if some kind of little “anti success” gremlins just KNEW I was close to making a major breakthrough… and those little bastards came out of the woodwork to do all their evil shenanigans to keep me from it.<\/p>\n

How did I defeat those evil little buggers?<\/p>\n

I IGNORED Them!<\/strong><\/p>\n

And by simply ignoring them and continuing my simple daily habits day after day, consistently and persistently, those ugly little gremlins went running for the hills.<\/p>\n

And the “fire” that seemed so urgent?<\/p>\n

Turns out it wasn’t so urgent after all. It took care of itself.<\/p>\n

A worthwhile dream or goal isn’t accomplished with infrequent sprints. Progress is made and goals are accomplished by daily consistency and persistency.<\/p>\n

Little actions repeated day after day, month after month, year after year… THAT is the secret.<\/p>\n

And it ain’t that hard.<\/p>\n

You just put the blinders on and do it.<\/p>\n

Give it a try for 21 days and you’ll discover something pretty cool.<\/p>\n

It actually gets EASIER.<\/p>\n

You see, after 21 days (more or less) a habit is established… and it takes less self discipline to KEEP doing the habit than to START the habit.<\/p>\n

So all you have to do is suck it up and grow a pair for 21 days. After that it won’t always be smooth sailing… but it WILL be easier.<\/p>\n
