Since the day I composed this was Sunday, a day traditionally reserved for matters of the spirit, a somewhat different message than the typical Doberman Dan fare.<\/p>\n
Ahem…<\/em><\/p>\n I started selling online in late 1996. Those were the pioneer days of online marketing.<\/p>\n In fact, I was the first person in the bodybuilding market to use a URL as a call to action in full-page magazine ads.<\/p>\n Thanks to being a part of this crazy online marketing stuff since the very beginning, I\u2019ve seen the full progression of the \u201cInternet Marketing\u201d thang. Including all the rookies who anointed themselves \u201cgurus\u201d and started selling \u201cInternet Marketing\u201d courses and coaching.<\/p>\n By the way, it\u2019s called \u201cInternet Marketing\u201d for reasons I still<\/em> don\u2019t understand. Because it\u2019s not really \u201cInternet Marketing.\u201d It\u2019s actually biz-op.<\/p>\n Anyhoo… I\u2019ve seen millions made by these gurus.<\/p>\n I\u2019ve also seen herds of initiates and numberless truth seekers constantly misled by following these false lights.<\/p>\n For a price, these pseudo-teachers offer their students initiation into the mysteries of Internet Marketing, promising them guidance into easy riches. Because these guys (very, very few are women) understand that man\u2019s weakness for leaders — as well as his worship of idols — makes him easy prey.<\/p>\n In many cases, they\u2019re just posers selling advice about something they\u2019ve never successfully done.<\/p>\n In other words, according to the ex-street cop in me who still occasionally pokes his head up, it\u2019s a fraud.<\/p>\n However, good can still come to many of these defrauded followers. Sure, most will give up on their dream and quit, disappointed and lamenting their lost time and money.<\/p>\n On the other hand, a few will eventually discover — after years of waiting and sacrificing — that they were following a mirage.<\/p>\n They\u2019ll get disillusioned with their \u201cgurus\u201d and false prophets… and this disappointment will be worth all the effort and all the money they paid for their fruitless search.<\/p>\n Why?<\/p>\n
