I went to the Potter\u2019s house.<\/p>\n
Bowing, I said, \u201cMaster Potter, I want to create something magnificent.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said not a word. With a wave of His hand, He invited me to sit on the stool in front of his potter\u2019s wheel.<\/p>\n
He plopped a lump of clay on the wheel and turned it on. He took my hands into his, placed them on the clay and applied a slight pressure. As soon as I started working the clay, He left the room.<\/p>\n
And I turned a formless lump of clay into a misshapen, ugly lump of clay.<\/p>\n
The Potter returned. Seeing the results of my work He said not a word.<\/p>\n
He took my misshapen, ugly lump of clay off the potter\u2019s wheel and placed a new lump of clay in its place. He turned on the wheel, took my hands into his, placed them on the clay and applied a slight pressure.<\/p>\n
Again, as soon as I started working the clay, He left the room.<\/p>\n
This happened time after time.<\/p>\n
In spite of my intention and effort, I fell short of my goal to \u201ccreate something magnificent.\u201d Instead, I produced nothing but misshapen, ugly lumps of clay.<\/p>\n
After seeing my assortment of misshapen, ugly lumps of clay… and my disappointment and frustration… the Potter looked into my eyes, smiled and said…<\/p>\n
\u201cMy son, if you will ask, I will create something magnificent WITH you.\u201d<\/p>\n
Then He plopped a lump of clay on the wheel… turned it on… placed my hands on the clay… and He directed my hands.<\/p>\n
And we created something magnificent.<\/p>\n
