The time when families use to all live together and raise their own food.

BTW, if things continue down the path we’re currently on, we all might have to go back to that.

But I digest.

(And yes, for the humorless twits who always email me, I know the word is “digress.” But how’s that funny?)

Anyhoo… the big meal of the week on the farm was always Sunday after church. That’s when the whole family gathered around the table, enjoyed a big meal together and shared their experiences and observations from that week.

On Thursday, since Sunday was little Bobby’s birthday, Mama decided that the main course of the Sunday meal would be duck.

Just so you know, the family ducks were always fed greasy, smelly fish. That’s what ducks were accustomed to eating. It’s cheap, the ducks like it and it keeps them healthy, active and lean.

But three days before the big Sunday meal, here’s what Mama did to prepare the duck:

She told her oldest daughter, Lillian, to choose three ducks and separate them from the flock. Then they were caged in their own area and instead of being fed fish, they were constantly fed corn and sour milk to prepare them for Sunday’s meal.

That Sunday, the whole family raved about how succulent the duck tasted. And Mama was proud as could be.

Now back in those days, duck was considered something of a delicacy. It was usually only served on special occasions. But Mama felt so proud because the family raved about her duck, she decided that she would serve duck again next Sunday.

So once again… three days before the big meal she told Lillian to go choose three ducks and start feeding them corn and sour milk.

The only problem was this:

Lillian was being courted by a boy named Richard from the farm down the road. And her heart was totally twitter-pated by his mere presence. So, when he showed up at the exact moment that Lillian was going to separate the three ducks, she lost all sense of time. Instead of separating the ducks and feeding them corn and sour milk, she spent the entire afternoon gazing into Richard’s dreamy blue eyes.

When Sunday came around and Mama asked her to go prepare the ducks for the meal, Lillian knew she was in big trouble. However, instead of telling Mama the truth, Lillian kept her mistake a secret.

She went and grabbed three ducks, chopped off their heads and started preparing them for the meal.

At mealtime, Mama set the three ducks in front of the family and sat back waiting for their praise… just like the Sunday before.

“This duck tastes like smelly fish,” grunted Papa.

“Yuck, this is nasty,” said little brother Bobby. “It doesn’t taste anything like last week’s duck.”

Then Granny chimed in, “Yeah, this SUCKS! I’ll tell ya something there, lil’ miss missy. Back in my day, a good wife wouldn’t be caught dead serving a duck like this, dag nabbit!” (Granny never like Mama. And she had always been very vocal about the fact that she wished her son would have married Betty Sue, rich Doctor Wyatt’s daughter.)

While Mama sat there in shock, confusion and embarrassment, Granny slugged back a double shot of moonshine, chucked her drumstick at Mama and shouted, “Son, let’s blow this popsicle stand and go get us some GOOD vittles at Doctor Wyatt’s house. His daughter still has that rockin’ rack you used to lust after, ya know.”

The moral of the story?

As within, so without.

In other words, your input determines your output.

Or as the computer geeks say, GIGO… garbage in, garbage out.

You see, you can be a good tasting duck… or you can be a nasty tasting duck that smells like putrefied fish. YOU are directly in control of that. Because you are directly in control of what you allow to enter your heart and mind.

And yes, it really is as simple as that.

That means that if your business and income are not where you want them to be… it ain’t the economy’s fault… it ain’t due to an alleged international pandemic… it ain’t the fault of anybody else.

Welcome to quantum reality, my revered reader. As within, so without.

In other words, YOU and ONLY you are directly responsible for EVERYTHING in your business.

And the proof of that is LEGION.

Whether you choose to accept this as truth or not… either way, you’ll wind up proving it.

You see, only recently did I understand something that has puzzled me for the last quarter of a century:

I’ve given people EVERYTHING they need to know about direct response marketing and copywriting to build ANY kind of business, income and lifestyle that a human being can imagine and desire. As a matter of fact, that’s what I do month after month for the knights in my Marketing Camelot.

Yet… people still struggle and give up.

Or a million times worse… they remain ‘turned-to-stone’ on their torpid tushies, cowering in fear and NEVER taking action on what they claim to be their biggest dream or desire.

Why?

They’re a duck stuck on a diet of smelly fish.

Listen… this is without a doubt the number one thing you absolutely MUST do if you want to advance in your business. You can have all the “how to” in the world (and many people in the IM space do) but you will always plateau… or in the worst case, NEVER make any progress… until you change your ‘mental diet.’

And until you make a commitment to do that… and keep doing it until you no longer smell like nasty fish… no amount of “how to,” effort or even prayer will make one iota of difference.

Sooooooo… instead of smelly fish, chew on that.

All the best,
Doberman Dan

P.S.
