{"id":12490,"date":"2016-07-05T16:28:26","date_gmt":"2016-07-05T21:28:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dobermandan.com\/blog\/?p=12490"},"modified":"2016-07-05T16:28:26","modified_gmt":"2016-07-05T21:28:26","slug":"the-death-of-email-marketing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dobermandan.com\/blog\/the-death-of-email-marketing\/","title":{"rendered":"The death of email marketing&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m at a loss.<\/p>\n<p>Frankly, I don\u2019t know what to do.<\/p>\n<p>Things have changed online.<\/p>\n<p>Dramatically.<\/p>\n<p>Just within the past 8 weeks.<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s forcing me to rethink EVERYTHING.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what I\u2019m talking about&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I was have a chit chat today with one of my knights and coaching prot\u00e9g\u00e9s&#8230; Sir Sean of Mysel.<\/p>\n<p>Sean is one of the smartest dudes I know.<\/p>\n<p>In fact&#8230; even though he never talks about it&#8230; the dude is a genius.<\/p>\n<p>I mean a REAL genius.<\/p>\n<p>IQ of 168&#8230; or something like that. (Details aren\u2019t my strong point.)<\/p>\n<p>Graduate degree from Columbia.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of all that&#8230; the dude is HIGHLY perceptive.<\/p>\n<p>And he has noticed a HUGE change in response to emails&#8230; in his own business and the businesses of his clients. (And he has 8-figure businesses as clients.)<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what I&#8230; and a couple hundred of my knights have noticed:<\/p>\n<p>Internet wide&#8230; as of about 8 weeks ago&#8230; email open rates have been cut in HALF.<\/p>\n<p>And that has taken click-through rates down the toilet, too.<\/p>\n<p>Which means SALES from email marketing have tanked, too.<\/p>\n<p>You see, emails aren\u2019t getting delivered like before.<\/p>\n<p>Even white listed emails are ending up in the spam folder.<\/p>\n<p>I would LOVE to know why. But nobody knows why this is happening.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of platform&#8230; Aweber&#8230; Mailchimp&#8230; Confusionsoft&#8230; whatever&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;EVERYBODY is suffering from this.<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s Internet wide.<\/p>\n<p>I gotta tell ya&#8230; writing daily emails is a LOT of work.<\/p>\n<p>And since this Internet wide \u201cadjustment\u201d&#8230; or whatever you call it&#8230; it\u2019s been a lot of work&#8230; for VERY little return.<\/p>\n<p>So it\u2019s FORCING intelligent marketers to re-think this model.<\/p>\n<p>And at this point, I can\u2019t see very many reasons for continuing on.<\/p>\n<p>After all&#8230; I steal time away from my family and my passions to write these emails.<\/p>\n<p>In the past I could justify it&#8230; and make the<br \/>\nsacrifices&#8230; because I was adding new knights to<br \/>\nmy Marketing Camelot.<\/p>\n<p>But since this weird Internet-wide glitch has tanked open rates&#8230; clickthrough rates&#8230; and therefore sign ups in the Marketing Camelot&#8230; I can no longer afford the sacrifices.<\/p>\n<p>So it\u2019s back to the drawing board for Doberman Dan.<\/p>\n<p>After comparing notes with Sir Sean of Mysel&#8230; the numbers show that it doesn\u2019t make sense to continue investing the ENORMOUS amount of time, effort and sweating BLOOD to continue publishing daily emails.<\/p>\n<p>(For example: I\u2019m writing this email at 10:12 PM&#8230; sitting on the couch watching TV with the Colombiana and my \u201cson\u201d, Chiqui Ricky. This is SUPPOSED to be family time. Yet here I am&#8230; writing an email that will most likely net me NOTHING.)<\/p>\n<p>So now I have to reevaluate EVERTHING.<\/p>\n<p>It looks like this \u201cget an opt-in by offering a freebie&#8230; then email the shit outta the list every day\u201d is no longer the right model.<\/p>\n<p>It was working before&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>But it sure as hell ain\u2019t workin\u2019 since this Internet wide \u201ccut open rates in HALF\u201d change a couple months ago.<\/p>\n<p>So I\u2019m going to invest my time (which is actually my LIFE) into people who have proven themselves SERIOUS in their pursuit of a better business and a better life&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;by whipping it out (their credit card, silly!) and investing in themselves.<\/p>\n<p>THAT person has demonstrated &#8212; with their dollars &#8212; that they\u2019re SERIOUS about changing their life.<\/p>\n<p>The person who responds for a freebie&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Meh.<\/p>\n<p>No commitment there.<\/p>\n<p>Look, I\u2019ve made MILLIONS with a teeny tiny list of BUYERS.<\/p>\n<p>The freebie seekers?<\/p>\n<p>Well&#8230; the BEST you can expect is to cull out a few of the \u201cplayers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The REAL entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n<p>The people who TRULY desire to grow.<\/p>\n<p>And change their life.<\/p>\n<p>The rest?<\/p>\n<p>Well&#8230; it USED to be 80\/20&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>80% wannabees&#8230; 20% players.<\/p>\n<p>Then it was 90\/10.<\/p>\n<p>Now&#8230; my experience shows it\u2019s closer to 99\/1.<\/p>\n<p>I feel no malice towards the 99%.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, I love them.
