And I always thought I\u2019d go out that way, too.<\/p>\n<p>Until yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>I was on a coaching call with one of my knights in my supplement business mentorship.<\/p>\n<p>And a piece of chocolate on my desk was just too inviting to ignore.<\/p>\n<p>Although I SHOULD have ignored it.<\/p>\n<p>Because I started choking on it.<\/p>\n<p>At first I was coughing so no problem there.<\/p>\n<p>Then it became lodged in my airway. I couldn\u2019t get air in or out.<\/p>\n<p>Now THAT\u2019S a problem.<\/p>\n<p>I walked into the bathroom (with my knight still on the phone in the office) as if that would somehow help the situation.<\/p>\n<p>It didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>I couldn\u2019t breathe.<\/p>\n<p>And in the moment when everything started turning white and surreal, I thought to myself&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Of all the ways to die, choking to death on a piece of chocolate is pretty far down on the list of how I wanted to go.<\/p>\n<p>Not as far down the list as getting eaten alive by a great white shark, mind you. But it\u2019s in the bottom ten at least.<\/p>\n<p>I was pretty sure I was about to black out so I did the last thing I could think of with what little strength I had left.<\/p>\n<p>I started clapping my hands together to try to get the Colombiana\u2019s attention. (We live in a big house and she was in the bedroom talking on the phone.)<\/p>\n<p>She came out to investigate what or whom I was applauding. (\u2018Cuz I NEVER applaud myself&#8230; although I probably should occasionally.)<\/p>\n<p>She saw me stumbling around with a blue face and it didn\u2019t take long to figure out what was wrong.<\/p>\n<p>No, this email hasn\u2019t been published posthumously. I survived.<\/p>\n<p>Chalk another one up for the Heimlich maneuver.<\/p>\n<p>(Wouldn\u2019t it be weird if Dr. Heimlich died by choking to death? Because nobody wanted to save him \u2018cuz they thought it might be some kind of copyright or trademark violation?)<\/p>\n<p>Anyhoo&#8230; this got me to thinking.<\/p>\n<p>No, I\u2019m not under any delusions that anybody other than me gives a shit if I would\u2019ve died yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>But I was reminded how I felt after Gary Halbert died.<\/p>\n<p>You see, I was close with Gary. And he was always there for me.<\/p>\n<p>Yeah, he was in his 60\u2019s but he seemed bulletproof to me. He seemed invincible.<\/p>\n<p>So for some illogical reason I just thought he\u2019d always be there.<\/p>\n<p>And I took him for granted.<\/p>\n<p>Big mistake.<\/p>\n<p>HUGE mistake.<\/p>\n<p>A mistake of historically MONUMENTAL proportions.<\/p>\n<p>What I SHOULD have done was been on the phone with him every damn day&#8230; trying to absorb as much of his brilliance as possible while he was still with us.<\/p>\n<p>And try to get him to laugh a little bit. (It always felt good to make Gary laugh.)<\/p>\n<p>But I was a dumbass.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Cuz I took him for granted.<\/p>\n<p>And now he\u2019s gone.<\/p>\n<p>And there are a couple of issues I\u2019m dealing with right now that I\u2019m pretty sure Gary is the\u00a0ONLY person who could help me.<\/p>\n<p>But that ain\u2019t an option anymore.<\/p>\n<p>Why am I telling you this?<\/p>\n<p>Again, I\u2019m under no delusions whatsoever that anybody gives a shit about me.<\/p>\n<p>They only care about how I can make them money.
