I loved Matt Foley.<\/p>\n
Remember him?<\/p>\n
Matt was the late Chris Farley\u2019s motivational speaker character on Saturday Night Live.<\/p>\n
He was the guy who lived in a van down by the river and lived on a steady diet of government cheese.<\/p>\n
My favorite line of his is what I wrote in the subject line.<\/p>\n
And that\u2019s exactly how I feel about all the civilians who tell me about all the wonderful things they\u2019re GOING to do.<\/p>\n
My reaction is the same as Matt Foley\u2019s.<\/p>\n
Cuz they NEVER do them. They only TALK about doing them.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s the difference between a knight in my Marketing Camelot and a civilian.<\/p>\n
The civilians only TALK about what they\u2019re going to do.<\/p>\n
My knights go DO it.<\/p>\n
A civilian dreams.<\/p>\n
A knight makes their dreams come true.<\/p>\n
A civilian experiences fear and pees his pants.<\/p>\n
A knight also experiences fear. Then he does what he needs to do with wet pants.<\/p>\n
Listen, life as a civilian sucks.<\/p>\n
I know from experience.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s the life Thoreau described. A life lived in \u201cquiet desperation.\u201d<\/p>\n
But here\u2019s what I\u2019ve found…<\/p>\n
There are only two things needed to leave behind the \u201cquiet desperation\u201d life of a civilian… and live the exciting life of a knight:<\/p>\n
1. Someone who believes in you enough to rescue you from a life of quiet desperation… and…<\/p>\n
2. Someone who will provide not only the motivation you need to move toward your dreams… but also the \u201chow to\u201d you need to make it all happen.<\/p>\n
