Since you don't want to charge as much, you could do something similar to what Mike Stenzler did with http://copywritingsummit.com and make it a virtual conference. I didn't attend (not sure "business" copywriting is my thing), so I don't know how well it worked out for them, but it's happened two years running.

They live stream the presentations, and provide attendees with a recorded version in case they miss a session. They also spread it out over a month, I think.

Yes, I'm still considering it. I might make it a small workshop with a lot of personal attention and interaction, instead of a big seminar. I'll keep you updated.

I like the Online seminar idea.
It could be recorded and sold.
Plenty of opportunity to interact.(But,no talk over beverages or food)
Easy to show examples and web sites.
No need to travel.
Please consider the option now or for an additional event.
Keep up the blogging,great stuff!
Thanks,
John

Hey Dan,

What about an online seminar? The technology today is more than capable of doing that. The only downside is the lack of networking for the attendees, I guess.

Live a little, Dan.
Why not choose somewhere outside of Orlando?

Why don't people offer their seminars in the Phoenix metroplex more? I've had LOVELY times at EVERY seminar (even bad ones) there. And the FOOD is alway EXCELLENT in most restaurants.

(I'm SO tired of the Orlando venue area - mildew smell and all).
(Yes...even in the Hard Rock, my suite had that smell in the carpeting)

It's easier to get around the place...including my 24 hour Mexican place that is just awesome for food. Dan Kennedy used to have a bunch of his seminars here near the Biltmore. I love the area...and the Biltmore.

And I agree with the guy above...even Vegas is better than Orlando.

Dan,

You KNOW those seminar promoters have a $$$ figure they want to make from this UPFRONT goal. It all depends what YOURS is and how many seats you want to sell.

100 seats - usually no problem
500 seats - well, a little more difficult with a less than 4 months

For me the first 2 dates work.
I'm hanging out with The Donald for the last timeslot.

IF your seminar depends on your panel, then depending on WHO they are and how much time THEY will be running their mouths, that will determine my coming.

October 23 through 25 = GOOD
November 6 through 8 = GOOD
November 13 through 15 = ALREADY TAKEN on my calendar

Hi everybody,

Just a quick update...

As usual, I took my "ready, fire, aim" approach to putting on this seminar. :)

But I've been learning a lot the past week about how these seminars work.

It's actually a bit discouraging because most experienced seminar promoters are saying I can't pull this off with a subscriber base less than 5,000 or so. And it will be REALLY hard to promote it without having snail mail adresses of my online subscribers.

Which would mean I would have to approach other people and ask them to promote the seminar to their lists.

Can I be really transparent about JV'ing with some of these guys? The problem I have with doing that is that a lot of people with big lists are exactly the people I do NOT want my name to be associated with. Not ALL of them... but a lot of them.

What I'm being told is I have two options:

1. Keep the price low to get as many people there as possible with the hope enough people sign up to cover expenses... or...

2. Since I have a small subscriber base and don't want to JV with other people to promote the seminar... keep it small with lots of personal attention for each attendee. But then that means the price has to be high.

I really don't like the #2 option much because I know a lot of business owners are experiencing cash flow issues with the economy like it is and I really wanted to keep the price down as much as possible

Some experts are advising me that if I DON'T do option #2, I'm going to be in the hole trying to pull off this seminar. And as much as I want to do this seminar... I can't afford to go negative on it... and I shouldn't have to.

I'll do an article soon about what I'm discovering about promoting a seminar. The bottom line is this...

1. Seminars of approx. $1,000 per person or less are merely to cover expenses. The way the promoter makes up for his time is to pitch a high priced product or coaching program to the attendees.

2. Content only seminars are usually $4,000 to $5,000 (or more) per person. This is the only way to cover all the expenses and cover the months and hours and hours of preparation required.

I've seen the months of preparation and actual physical conditioning Halbert would go through to prepare for his seminars... and I know I'd have a TON of work to do over the next three months to get ready for this seminar. But to be really honest with you I don't want to charge 4 to $5k per person.

Yeah, yeah... I know if you implement what I teach it will be worth way more than that. (That point has been made a million times before in promoting high priced seminars.)

I really wanted to make this affordable for everybody. Even people just getting started... or people who don't have a business yet and would like to attend to discover how to start one.

Hmmmm... what to do, what to do?

I'd really like to know your thoughts and ideas.

Best,
Dan

Good day Dan.

It sounds like a great idea to me and I'm eager to put aside some quality time to learn more about marketing off-line and merging that sales channel with my on-line businesses. A seminar would make me have to put some serious time and energy into finally getting that done. I've got all of your stuff printed out and filed with my other off-line stuff (like the 12 month millionaire) - now I just need to implement it.

An early November date would be good for me as I'm sure we'll have snow here in Canada and I'll be ready for some sun.

Keep up the good work and all the best.

Hi Dan

First... I really loved my free book! You are a natural motivator, and some of us (me in particular) really need that swift kick :D

Due to family circumstances, I'll never be able to make this event, but would definitely be interested in a replay.

You seem to have deservedly amassed quite a fan base that might be able to help offset your expenses with back end sales via a DVD set or another form of media.

I hope all that read this (your post) respond so you can thoroughly evaluate your options.

Good luck.
