The Secret Of My Success In Direct Marketing

Dear Friend,
So you say you want THE secret, huh?
If you're ready for it, it can transform your life in ways you couldn't possibly imagine in your wildest dreams…
… yet.

Wow, great video… very personal, very real.
Thanks!
Unprofitable campaigns are not failures. They're just more data for the spreadsheet. And I'm better equipped when approaching future campaigns.
Of course, saying that and believing it without faltering are two entirely different things. Getting my ass handed to me and acknowledging that that is what happened is good once in a while, too. Character building, as they say.
Thanks, Dan.
Hey,
You really inspire me, thanks for the work that you do.
And I already make what most people would consider a lot of money online have travelled the world and whatever all that fun stuff is…but still I always check out your newsletter (I have for years) and continue to love it and be inspired by it.
Thanks again!
Dan,
Seven years ago this month I started my first online business, selling physical drop-shipped products. And it's still making a little money for me today. But seven years ago, the online world was a lot different from what we have today: PPC on Overture was cheap, we didn't have to suffer through the Google sandbox and there weren't 10 Gazillion competitors doing whatever a guy chose to do. Of course we also didn't have 10 million "gurus" and guru affiliates out there trying to get our money with the promise of quick riches.
Nothing I've tried since has worked out as well yet. In fact, nothing has worked out at all! I've spent more money on courses and gurus and promised mentoring than I've made. The only guy pitching the ball to me is Randy Johnson, but I keep swinging the bat. (If you're familiar with Randy, when he pitched for my Mariners he led the league in strikeouts.)
You know, I think one thing that makes it tough for people to become successful today is the lack of mentors and the over abundance of gurus. You know what the difference is, Dan. One wants to help, the other wants your money and doesn't care if you make anything. What if you had had to pay Halbert 1000's of dollars a month when you had no money, in the hope he'd toss you a tidbit once in a while?
The online world today reminds me of the late 70's when the real estate markets were white-hot and everybody got into the agent business. The result was that very few good agents made any real money, simply because there were too many mediocre agents diluting the market.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Owen
I saw somewhere years ago, and apols to the author, the only two keys to success are consistency and persistence.
My own take on it is that 97+% people stop after a setback or two, so just by keeping on, you are bound to come out near the front eventually.
Those numbers sound about right to me, Andrew.
If I would have had to pay Halbert $1000/month when I first started, I would have had to live in a cardboard box under a bridge and eat out of a dumpster!
Even just the $197/year to subscribe to his newsletter was a big stretch for me.
Luckily his website is free now. A rookie could study it, take action on it and make a million bucks.
Thank you for your kind comments.
Ah, yes… character building. There have been times when I felt I had enough character. I needed MONEY!
Thanks for the beer Dan! Happy to hear I have a similar background. Everybody should be in Amway at least once. I am NFL, no friends left as far as network/multi level. My Dr. is making 7k/mo on his side business. I am just not putting 2000 a month in somebody elses pocket.
Fall down 7 times, get up eight.
Your right Dan; I always liked this one by Winston Churchill even if now a little dated. "Continuous effort – not strength or intelligence – is the key to unlocking our potential." Few……but very profound words.
Just what I needed today.
I am marching on…
or hitting on.
Thanks

Dan,
Your story reminds me of the amount of dumb mistakes I've made to get where
I am today. So it was a pleasant reminder.
I'm sure I have a lot more mistakes to go before I strike the million dollar vein of gold…
but I never never never give-up.
In fact, my biggest breakthrough came when I decided I would be a world class copywriter or die trying. I know that's harsh, but within six months of that decision I was able to quit my day/night job. Within a year… poverty had ended… now… I'm only starting to see the "fruits" of some of the principles you're teaching.
I hope some of the newer peeps are wise enough to listen to your words.
"… when I decided I would be a world class copywriter or die trying."
The universe seems to test people who make those kind of decisions. Those that are still standing after all the storms reap rewards they previously never could have imagined.
Congrats to you for never backing down. There are precious few people like that.
As long as you keep on, I'll be marching right beside you.
Those precious few warriors Heraclitus spoke of are my brothers.
You're welcome. I hope you like Corona. That's all I've got.
…"fall down 7 times, get up 8".
The "getting up" is the most important part. Most people never even get up after ONE time. They just resign themselves to a life of mediocrity, living lives of "quiet desperation", as Thoreau described.
Or even worse… they never even attempt anything that would make them possibly "fall down."
Sad… so sad.
How true.
I like that quote. Thanks for sharing!
Greetings Dan,
Even though I am relatively new in the world of online direct marketing, I too noticed early on, whether attending copywriters bootcamps in Florida or wandering and wondering online which "experts" (that is to say, goo-roos) were worth getting the few dollars I had to spare in order to really get on this road to financial independence and contentment– and realized that true mentors are far and few between.
You on the other hand, our friend, are genuine and are a constant source of support. guidance and encouragement in your field to the "rest of us out here in the rank and file"
Your altruistic encouragement and tips reminds me of a now retired direct mail order maverick marketer from Williamston, Michigan by the name of Dean "DAX" DuVall who famously said way back in 1969: “To reach the top of the success ladder, one must grasp the next rung firmly with one hand whilst extending the other to the fellow below. "
Thanks good buddy, keep it coming our way.
Gratefully yours.
"If you quit, you'll never get anyplace."
SO true, Dan
"Keep swinging at the ball… eventually you'll get a hit. when you get enough hits, one of them will be a home run"
Okay, I'll keep swinging… even tho the weather is nice today and half the country –banks and gov't — is off for Easter Monday.
Thanx for the motivation.
“To reach the top of the success ladder, one must grasp the next rung firmly with one hand whilst extending the other to the fellow below."
That's beautiful. It describes exactly what I'm trying to do with this blog. Mr. DuVall said it much more eloquently than I probably would.
Thanks, Garrett.
