PS best coffee is Cold Brewed(ref Toddy System, 1 pound coarse ground coffee in a half gallon of water, let sit at least 8 hours. Strain, resulting Black Gold is smooth concentrated coffee extract. 2 TBSP in 8 oz of hot water, I use more. But you already knew that.)

I am in awe of your jazz runs. They scare me.

re: learning by ear. holy cow… technology. ten years ago, I would press that stupid rewind button on the Panasonic Discman over and over again and learned riffs painfully note by note.

It was near impossible to learn Eric Clapton or Tom Morley licks.

    Dan,

Nice playing, and good advice, too.

Obviously, that's a 335 of some sort. Gibson or some other make? Nice tone and finish on that one.

P.S. What is it with copywriters being musicians? Hey, I'll play bass with you and Carlton and Fortin. :-)

    Dan,

Ahhhh…the pleasures of the Ibanez.. You give yourself short shrift, my man. That's some mighty fine finger work. And the copy tip dovetailed with your music lesson, beautifully.

    All the best.

    Dan,

Nice music and I liked the advice, doing what you like always, badley to start with and the 33minutes and 33seconds on your differing work load. Sadly I refer to my self as tone daft, but when I hear a tune i like….I can play it to death.

    Dan,

There is a book that covers this topic of learning slow. It's called The Talent Code. In a nutshell, it says that the greatest "talents" in the world of music and sports learn from master teachers that teach slow… and use massive amounts of repetition.

One music school tells their students that if someone can recognize the song you are playing when they walk by, you are playing it too fast.

    Later,

I enjoyed the hangout! And I enjoyed what you thought was sloppy and slow, too. This is just what I needed to get me started.

I haven't gotten to listen to everyone of your video 30 day challenge themes, because I've been inventorying what was left of our home. It burned down on March 14th…and what an experience it has been. I'd rather have been working on copy or article marketing, without a doubt.

I also enjoyed the advice and have taken it to heart.

    Thanks for the big smile!

You're using some sort of a software along with playing the guitar… mind sharing what it is?

    P.S.: I play the guitar too… : )

When I first heard you on your beautiful Ibanez semi, I thought, "Holy Larry Carlton Batman!"

Very cool setup… we used to have to learn from the record, or tape player.

If Nail isn't available to play bass, I am http://vegas-beach.com/

FWIW I saw Mike Stern w Jaco Pastorius at the Tralfamadore Cafe in Buffalo, 1983. For the first three tunes my jazz guitarist friend and I kept asking each other, "Where's the keyboard player?"
We eventually realized the keyboard sound was Stern.

    Dan,

You sure got a way of embedding the important message…many thanks.

Been meaning to ask, what's up with 33 min, 33 sec? Some significance to that block of time?

    Best, Mark

No one has commented on what a terrific audio voice you have. it comes through on the video like velvet……voice overs and radio is yet your third dimension..

Mark, if I remember correctly, the 33 minutes and 33 seconds is the amount of time that famous copywriter Eugene Schwartz said that you could fully concentrate on something before getting distracted.
