Really inspiring post Dan...

I'm experiencing the end of my "gravy train" client right now... A buddy pointed me to this post.

I guess I'd better get my ass in gear!

Thanks,

Something interesting (related to this story) happened today and I just HAD to share it with you.

You know how we're always told to write down our goals? Well, unlike most, I actually do it. And I always write out my goals for the new year.

So as I was preparing to write out my goals for the new year, I started looking through the goals for this year I wrote out on December 31, 2008.

And there it was. I wrote...

"I have sold (niche biz name) for at least 1 million dollars."

But here's the problem...

When you write out your goals, you have to be SPECIFIC.

I should have said, "I have sold the business for 1 million dollars CASH paid all up front" or something like that.

The goal came true... it's just that they offered the million dollars on terms.

So guys and gals... when you're writing out your goals, you need to be very specific.

Hope that helps.

First time reading your site from a recommendation by Ryan Healy...

Nice story here Dan.

It's kinda funny how many of the "rags to riches" types of stories seem to follow this same path.

Hmmm...could it be better to PUT your back against the wall to be successful?

Excellent article dude.

Hey Dan,

Haven't cruised by your site in a while and just followed a link here from Ryan Healy.

Loved reading about your journey -- not so different from my own!

Would love to share but it's Monday morning and I need to unplug the phones in my office and focus.

Ciao for now,
Lawrence

Hey guys,

Thanks for your comments.

I can't really reveal details about the business right now because we're still in negotiations. But If you've been reading my blog for a while it won't be too hard to figure out which business it is.

I can tell you this...

This million dollar + business was started with a half-assed sales letter. (gasp!)

It's true.

I was in a hurry and had to get something going ASAP. I didn't have time to get it perfect, I only had time to get it going.

So I threw the sales letter up online and it completely kicked ass.

I've said it before... you can make a lot of money with half-assed copy if your message to market match is right.

The copy is only a small part of the whole sales equation.

Best,
Dan

Definitely a great omen of things to come. Bring on 2010.

Dan,

Very inspiring story. That deal sucks donkey nads.

What is it with merchant service companies shutting down their customer accounts? Is there a company aware of the special needs of our types of businesses? If not, one needs to be started.

Regards,
Anthony

Hey Dan, can you post a link to that million dollar business site so we can learn from the master? I've seen tons of sales letters and had lots of "gurus" claim they can teach me to write good ones but I tend to not believe their unsubstantiated claims. If you built a business that successful starting with a sales letter............
