Thanks! that gives me a great idea for impressing a new client with a decent past-customer list but no real follow-up strategy.

    Dan …

Go on ahead … share those list selection secrets.

    I'd love to hear them!

I guarantee it will work better than the follow-up they're doing now! lol

    OK, there's one vote.

    Make it two votes :)

    Hey Dan,

My wife and I have a small mom & pop jewelry store, once in awhile will send out postcards to the locals letting them know that we buy gold. We do ok with this kind of mailing, do you think that if we did a mailing where we had a fake check with like $386.43 for a total, do you think we get people's attention. If so, do you have any in site on how we could pull this off and where this sort of printing is done?

    Thanks,
    ~Mark

PS. Please share those list selection secrets!

Thank you! Neat looking mailing and a great idea.

    Also looks kind of expensive.

Do you think you'd at least get an equivalent open rate and response with a regualr ol' #10 and a good letter for less cost?

That's my 1/50th of a dollar. (Which is worth $0.0036 factoring inflation)

And LOVE to hear the list selection secrets, of course.

  • dobermandan (author) said:

This probably wasn't that expensive. It's only one page.

You could do it even cheaper by doing it as a 2-color, instead of full color like in this example. You don't need to go full color to make the check look real. 2-color would work just fine.

    Hi Mark,

I bet a letter like this would beat the pants off the postcard… especially if you selected the right lists.

The success of direct mail is all about the list.

For printing and lettershop work like this, contact Paul Palencsar at http://www.usmailinghouse.com. I've been using them for several years now and have always been happy with their work.

    Dan,

Nice post. Now where are you hidin' them thar secrets?;-)

Thank you for dissecting this promotion with full explanation, Dan.

"The most important thing is they're doing something."

    That says it all.

And yes, please share your list selection secrets. Those of us in Kanukistan where lists supposedly aren't available are very interested.

  • dobermandan (author) said:

Ah, yes… Kanukistan. I hope to visit there one day.

  • dobermandan (author) said:

Some day… when the timing is right. I promise.

Dan, thanks for another great idea generator.

Got any resources regarding purl technology?

Bet your list secrets have something to do with the ole SRDS.

    Tell us more :-)

    (hope you're feeling better)

  • dobermandan (author) said:

    Hi Ken,

I'm feeling great. Thanks for asking.

Sorry but I don't have any good contacts for the purl technology. Hopefully somebody who does will chime in.

I come to this many weeks after the post. Very good idea for offline promotion of casinos and poker rooms. Hope you eventually releast the list selection secrets.
