On the way to the beach Saturday, the Colombiana and I stopped at Bob Evans.
I like Bob Evans.
It reminds me of my Ohio roots, I get to eat stuff I shouldn’t (biscuits and gravy) and I always learn something from the conversations I eavesdrop on.
Plus, it’s probably the ONLY place I can go where I’m the youngest guy in the room.
While I was sipping my coffee…
…the waitress always looks at me like I’ve got three heads when I ask for coffee with a side of butter…
…a sad looking man in his late 50’s sat down at the table in front of us with a woman I assumed to be his wife.
(For some reason he reminded me of my father.)
I immediately had a gut feeling about this dude from the very second I laid eyes on him.
He was a failure.
And bitter about it.
And he blamed his failure on everyone but himself.
Here’s the following conversation I heard while he was discussing his family with his wife:
“They’re good people but they’re not good people.”
My gut feeling was confirmed.
He continued…
“What I mean is, they’re more concerned with themselves than others.”
Well no shit, Sherlock.
That’s Human Nature 101.
And it’s no wonder the dude’s a bitter failure. How could he possibly be successful operating with the belief system that other people should be more concerned about him than themselves.
